这首诗从字面意思上看，是朱熹春天郊游时所写的游春观感。而根据朱熹生活的年代推算出这首诗创作之时，泗水之地早已被金人侵占，泗水游春不是实事，而是一种虚拟。

此诗其实是借泗水这个孔门圣地来说理的。故而此诗表面上看似一首写景诗，描绘了春日美好的景致，实际上是一首哲理诗，表达了诗人于乱世中追求圣人之道的美好愿望。

风和日丽之时泗水的河边踏青，

无边无际的风光焕然一新。

谁都可以看出春天的面貌，

春风吹地百花开放、万紫千红，

到处都是春天的景致。
